The 3 S’s: Sleep, Stress, and Sex

To keep it simple, many people remember Ashwagandha for the “3 S’s”:
🌙 Sleep
😌 Stress
🔥 Sex
If these are areas you’d like to improve naturally, Ashwagandha may be worth considering.

What is it?

Ashwagandha is an herb that is considered an adaptogen. What is an adaptogen? An adaptogen is a substance (not always an herb or supplement) that "adapts" within its environment. For Ashwagandha in particular, there are 3 phases of adrenal fatigue. Ashwagandha adapts to each of these phases if your cortisol is high OR if it is low. When cortisol is low that means you have "tapped out or burnt out" your ability to maintain your cortisol stress response.

The Top Benefits of Ashwagandha

Here are some of the most researched areas where Ashwagandha may help:

1. Stress and Anxiety Relief

Ashwagandha helps regulate cortisol, your body’s main stress hormone. Studies show it may lower anxiety levels and promote a greater sense of calm.

2. Better Sleep

Known for its calming properties, Ashwagandha may improve sleep quality and support a more restful night’s sleep—naturally, without leaving you groggy.

3. Hormone and Thyroid Support

Ashwagandha may benefit thyroid function and hormone balance, which is especially important for women navigating fatigue, weight changes, or hormonal imbalances.

4. Energy and Stamina

By supporting adrenal health, Ashwagandha can improve energy levels, endurance, and even exercise performance.

5. Sexual Health

Ashwagandha has been shown to enhance libido and reproductive health in both men and women. Think of it as a natural support for vitality and connection.

Do You Really Need Ashwagandha?

Not everyone needs supplements, but if you:

  • Feel stressed or overwhelmed,

  • Struggle with fatigue or poor sleep, (consistently!)

  • Experience hormonal imbalances

  • Want to improve energy, mood, or libido

…then Ashwagandha could be a helpful addition to your wellness routine.

Dosing is dependent on the particular brand.

My trusted brands are pure encapsulations, thorne, gaia, and Mary Ruth's. The best recommendation for dosage is the lowest as possible. I currently use a ashwagandha proprietary blend that is recommended 2 capsules per day. I only use one 1 hour before bed to help me sleep. A typical dose of ashwagandha is 200 mg to 600 mg. Always start with the lowest dose possible.
